Good Spread of Visitors at InfoComm Asia 2008
(Hong Kong, 24 November 2008) The inaugural InfoComm Asia 2008 trade show and Summit for pro audio visual and systems integration concluded its three-day run in Hong Kong yesterday, attracting a total of 7,035 attendees from 49 countries. Of these, 53 per cent were from outside Hong Kong – 25 per cent from China and 28 per cent from other countries.
What pleased the organizer and exhibitors more was that these attendees represented a broad cross section of buyer industries. Said Mr Richard Tan, general manager of InfoCommAsia Pte Ltd, “Our visitor promotion strategy was targeted at drawing both trade practitioners and end-user professionals, to give them an educational experience at the Show on how AV technology can enhance their businesses. I’m really happy that among our attendees, we have a good percentage from the MICE industry, building trades, transportation, entertainment, education, healthcare and government organisations.”
AV systems integrators, distributors, and rental and staging companies traditionally form the vast majority of attendees at pro AV events around the world. At InfoComm Asia 2008, these trade representatives accounted for 57 per cent while vertical market end-users form 43 per cent of total attendees – a good showing in the organizer’s view. “From our experience in Asia, we realized that Asian businesses need more exposure to AV technology, and a good way to help our exhibitors in their marketing efforts in Asia is to reach out to the direct end-users, to get them involved and excited about cutting edge AV technology that they could apply in their businesses. Hence, we spent a great deal of effort and expense on developing an extensive database, as well as customized messaging to each of the market segment identified,” said Mr Tan. “We believe our investments have yielded dividends – our exhibitors I’m sure are very happy with our approach,” he continued.
Initial feedback from AMX, a major exhibitor at the show, indicated as much. “We are especially pleased to welcome visitors from a broad spectrum of industries such as casinos, hotels, property – both residential and retail, banking, education, defence, corporate and the government sectors. And they came from all around the region as well,” said a delighted Mr Niclas Brattberg, Vice-President, International Market Development for AMX.
The exhibit floor was active the moment the Show opened. Dr Angus Ho, General Manager, HKC Technology Ltd which is participating for the first time at an InfoCommAsia show, was equally pleased. “In one day, we met more than 20 potential systems integrators from India, Germany, Middle East, Southeast Asia and also different provinces in China. It has definitely exceeded our expectations,” he said.
"InfoComm Asia 2008 is a great place to meet regional partners and to show our new products. We are in an economic crisis but there are still very good opportunities in the market in both the public and private sectors," remarked Mr Niels Hermansen, Chief Operating Officer of dnp Denmark.
InfoComm Asia 2008 presented latest AV systems for command and control, security, digital signage, collaborative conferencing, corporate communication, education and training, entertainment, smart home applications, and many others, from 226 manufacturers and suppliers from 20 countries, over 14,000 sq m of exhibition space. In addition, a Summit featuring manufacturers’ presentations, seminars and industry-focused conferences viz. Transportation, Education, Building and Facility Management was a major attraction.
Technical site visits to the command and control centres of HK International Airport, HK MTR and International Finance Centre 2 building were also organized for attendees.
Mr Jaleel Husain, The Sound Room, Hyderabad came to look for new products to complement his current range from dnp Denmark, which is exhibiting at the Show. "I've already found several leads and some new products as well as a couple of business opportunities to review after spending just three hours at the Show". Mr Husain is impressed by the innovations and creativity at InfoCommAsia 2008. " For example, I found a very good mounting solution. This may be small but it is a critical part of our total package for customers to ensure our products fit seamlessly into an interior design."
Mr Brij Lekh Suthar, Chief Engineer (E & T) from the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in Delhi agreed that the Show was a “perfect place to meet people and see AV technology in application”. Mr Suthar was at InfoCommAsia 2008 with two other colleagues, Chief Engineers Mr Kanel and Mr Puri, to study latest technologies in pro AV that would enable their company increase efficiency in operations, communication as well as e-learning; and cut down handling and travel time and cost for their 30,000 employees across 20 assets centers. Mr Suthar said, "We saw everything we need at InfoComm Asia 2008." Mr Suthar complimented the organizer for an excellent show, in particular, the very well structured conference program.
Mr Mohd Ambran, CRE Technology Advisor, Cisco Systems International BV based in Dubai concurred that “InfoComm Asia is really the right place to see everyone in Pro AV.” He is currently working on the new WTC Dubai project - envisioned to be the no. 1 connected exhibition center in the world - due for completion in 2010. He is looking at harnessing technology to enhance the experience for venue users, exhibitors and delegates at the Center, and provide value-add in the areas of making easily accessible the right information to the right users via RFID and mobile technology. He found many exciting displays and digital signage, info management and communication options on offer; and is looking forward to more enabling technology for the MICE sector at future InfoCommAsia events.
A frequent visitor at international fairs, Professor Peng Miao Yan, Director, Institute of Audio-Video & Lighting Technology in Guangzhou, China, was pleased to be at InfoComm Asia 2008, “a good place to meet up with industry colleagues and suppliers”. She acknowledged that “this Show is better than the ones I visited in China”, and was impressed by new exhibits at the Show. Prof Peng also designs for Government projects including the Asian Games 2010.
The Defence Science and Technology Agency in Singapore has been wishing for a platform to explore systems that allow for seamless integration of diverse products and technologies in command and control centres. Mr Tham Chee Hoong, found his ideal platform at InfoComm Asia 2008. He was pleased to see many alternative products and solutions under one roof which offer new insights and ideas. The wide coverage of the Summit Program, in particular, offered several eye-openers - "very enriching" he commented. He also found the Site Visits to the command and control centre of the MTR Corporation and intelligent building IFC 2 invaluable as these effectively translate the appreciation of the subject from theory to practicality and reality.
Other visitor delegations included Vietnam Telecom who came to see technology for networking and control room operation including display walls; Hua Nan Technological University in Guangdong, China, who were impressed by the high quality projection, sound, central control and management, conference and advanced display systems; the University of Auckland Business School which was sourcing for lecture recording, archiving distribution system and advance technology signage for its new building; Pixeltone Multimedia Co from the Philippines, which succeeded in renewing contacts, saw new products and even found partners to expand their cooperation in supply chain integration; Astech Pengson Distributors Inc, which was impressed by the Show that “has also opened my eyes to new potential markets"; and PCCW Solutions, Pacific Century Group, which provides ICT/Pro AV system integration solutions to the likes of HK International Airport, Disneyland, Ocean Park, Sands Venetian Macau and Ngong Ping 360.
InfoComm Asia will return in 2010, 17-19 November at the same venue, the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
