I still have the first generation Yamaha sound projector YSP-1000 in my living room and I am still very happy with it. Yamaha offers this year the YSP-4000 Sound Projector as the top of the line model and the YSP-3050 with less power and a couple less features.
With a high-end sound projector like the YSP-4000 you do not have to worry about installing surround boxes around your living room. The single unit placed under your TV takes care of it. For the extra bass power you can connect a sub woofer and hide it in a corner.
The YSP-4000 (fits perfect under 42 inch HDTVs) provides 1080p-compatible HDMI, analog video to HDMI digital video upconversion, analog video upscaling to HD quality, iPod compatibility, XM HD surround compatibility, built-in FM tuner and a wide variety of beam settings including My Surround for true multi-channel surround sound enjoyment from a single component. It also provides an RS-232C port and IR Pass-through for custom installation.
To make sure you see the difference to other Soundbars. The Yamaha YSP-4000 uses 40 tiny speakers to create the surround sound experience. The overall output power of the system is 120W.
Measurements of the YSP-4000 are 40 9/16" x 7 5/8" x 5 11/16".
